As the organization of the Vuelta Ciclista a la Región de Murcia, we have to give credit to the Guardia Civil, vital for the race since our beginning. From that fabolous group of people, the then lieutenant Manuel Arias stands out.
With him, and the Guardia Civil, the Vuelta a Murcia became a standard on cyclism safety, highly rated by all the participants.
Arias was also a lover of cyclism and our race, like millions of people around the world.
In 2008, he went to Córdoba as traffic Captain. It was a tough decision for the Vuelta, but fortunately, he left in Murcia his fantastic team, led by Ángel Rafael Rodríguez, current traffic Captain on Orense and former traffic Captain on Cartagena.
Sadly, one year and a half later, we knew that Manuel Arias had passed away, aged 56.
The 2010 edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia was a tribute to him, and to all the members of the Guardia Civil.
A tribute we pay every year, because he remains in our memory
